Ryan followed my lead and joined the Auckland Tough Guy & Gal this year... the junior version. Unlike me, he completed the course with no injuries. Thank goodness for that :)
The race was a muddy 1.5km. I thought he might like it but I couldn't be anymore wrong. He got really upset with some of the obstacles and refused to do them. Regardless, he completed it and we are very proud of him.
He said he won't be doing it again. The funniest thing was he said he'd rather be at school (the race was on a school day). In saying that, he is very proud of the event's t-shirt that we got him.

New Activities
I thought it's about time I update this blog as I have been really slack.
So, what's new?
Ryan has wanted to do martial art for quite a while now. I made some enquiries but was told by a lot of people that they prefer the kids to be at least 7 years old. We finally took him to his first Shaolin Kung-fu class about a month and a half ago. He is really enjoying it. They just had their grading done yesterday and the next one is not till July or August, so he will be on a white belt till then.
Instead of football, Ryan has decided to do rugby this year. He has been allocated to the Waratahs team and he is not very happy about it as he wanted to be in a New Zealand team. Since it's already a done deal, he has decided to support the real Waratahs as well.
The season has just started so it's still too early to tell if he enjoys it more than football. He did get awarded a Sportsmanship Award at his second game and he was thrilled with it (Sort of. He was actually happier with the voucher that was attached to the certificate). The award wasn't the only thing he got that day, he got a bruised eye as well. Second game and he already got a ruby injury!!! Maybe football is a safer option (from mum's prospective).

Another Year Older
Ryan turned 7 years of age last week (yes, I am a bit late with this post). As his actual birthday is on the 2nd day of school, we decided to celebrate it on the weekend before school started. Instead of a party, we had a small get together for him (I think all his overseas trips last year made up for not having a party).
I made sure I had a special birthday cake for him though. I decided not to ask him what he wants for his birthday cake as knowing him, he will want another Skylanders cake. Two were enough for me so I went for a Transformer cake instead. I got a friend to make the cake this year.
Thanks again Bambi, for the yummy cake. Ryan loved it and for some reason, he found his name at the side very amusing :)
He has gone back to school for a week now. He is in Year 3 and no longer consider a junior. Where has my baby gone!!! He has turned into a very lippy little boy! I would say too smart for his own good sometime LOL!
Anyway, back to school... he has a male teacher this year. He is liking it so far as I think he does more active stuff with them. This year, they will also have swimming classes once a week during the warmer months.
Let's hope for an enjoyable year for him.

Is the tooth fairy coming tonight?
Ryan is turning 7 years of age in 3 weeks and he just had one of his teeth fall out. It started wiggling a few days ago and it didn't take it long to fall out.
It freaked him out when it became loose. He didn't dare to ride his bike as he was afraid that it would fall on to the ground and neither did he dare to eat as he might swallow it. It was a couple of days before he felt comfortable with it.
Fast forward another 3 days and the tooth has fallen out. Good thing it happened after he finished his dinner. He was enjoying his fruit when it decided to come out. That got him off eating as it felt really weird.
It happened when we were at my parents' place and he's staying the night there, so I guess the tooth fairy will be dropping by their place tonight :)

The End of Another Year
Two and a half more days of school and that is it for the year. My baby is going to Year 3 which is primary middle school. When has the time gone?
Pakuranga Heights Year 2 had their last assembly today and all the students did a performance for the parents. In this video, you can see Ryan on stage in the yellow top.

Bollywood Dancing
There were some performances at the local mall recently and Ryan was part of it. Some kids from his school were performing a Bollywood dance which was taught by his class teacher and he volunteered to be in the group.
Well done, Mrs Dhaliwal. You did a great job. It wouldn't have been easy teaching a group of primary school kids a Bollywood performance :)
Unfortunately, we weren't able to attend the performance. It's a good thing my parents were able to go and had it recorded for us.

Halloween 2013
It's Halloween tonight. Ryan has asked to go trick or treating for quite a few years now but dad doesn't believe in celebrating Halloween.
In the past, we bought lollies and got him to hand them out to kids that knocked on our door. However last year, we had only one kid and he was really disappointed. I told dad that we have to let him go next time.
So he finally got to go trick or treating this year. We got him a vampire costume as that was what he asked for and his friend's dad took them out.
He was so excited and was already talking about it when he woke up in the morning. They came home with quite a bit of lollies. A bit too much for my liking :)
The most important thing was they enjoyed themselves. He said that Halloween is the best and he wants to do it again.
