Merry Christmas

This is Ryan's third Christmas and as usual, he was spoilt with lots of gifts. We started our Christmas celebration 2 days before the actual day with a party at Tinytown (Ryan's daycare). They put on a concert for the parents and we were told that Ryan was really good when they were practising. We weren't expecting much as if he was anything like last year, he wouldn't participate. We were right. They were on stage when we got there and we saw him looking really unsure of the whole thing. He started to get really upset when he saw us and ended up sitting with us instead.

Christmas day itself was really good. For some reason, he woke up a lot later than usual and was really surprise when he saw all the presents. He skipped his milk and breakfast and started unwrapping his presents. He was playing with his new toys when his grandma and aunty arrived with more presents. Then we went to grandma's place for a late lunch.

It was off to Koong Koong and Por Por's place later in the afternoon and guess what? He had more presents. All up, he had three present opening sessions! We came home after dinner and the poor boy was so tired.

Anyway, hope you guys had a good Christmas too.

Christmas 2009

As Ryan didn't like his photo taken with Santa for his first Christmas, I gave it a miss last year. There's been a gap so I thought I'll give it a try this year.

I took him to Smith & Caughey to visit the Enchanted Forest which leads to Santa (I actually wanted to check the forest out myself).

He's always saying that he is scared of Santa so I thought he will cry but he was a lot better than I thought. He wanted to walk away when it was nearly his turn and I think it was because the kid in front of us was crying. As you can see from the photo, he sat on Santa's knee. We couldn't get a smile out of him though as he was really worried and kept calling out for me. He was ok as soon as Santa let him go and he even took a present off Santa!

He saw Santa when I took him to the mall yesterday and pulled me over as he wanted to say hello to Santa. I wonder how he will be when Santa shows up at his daycare's X'mas party.

Santa Clause Is Coming To Town

For those of you that are not on Facebook, this is a video of Ryan singing Santa Clause Is Coming To Town. As he likes to sing and with X'mas coming, I thought I'll teach him something Chrimassy.

It's a very short clip but enjoy!!!

Class Photos

Yes, it's that time of the year again. Doesn't time flies? This is third time that Ryan is having his class photo taken. He's going to be 3 in February!!!

Anyway, enjoy the photos. I never know how they make him smile like that :)

Ryan and his guitar

For those who have been following this blog, apologies for this late entry.

This is a short clip of Ryan playing his guitar and singing. He likes to play his guitar and sings really loud with a really funny expression on his face. I haven't been able to film him with his funny expression but I think you will enjoy this as well.

If you look closely, you will see a scab on his head. He got it from playing with his friend in the sandpit at daycare on the day I filmed the clip.

Train Ride

Here are some photos of Ryan going on his first proper train ride 2 weekends ago. He looks scared in the photos but he actually quite enjoyed it.

I'm going to the mountain

That was what Ryan has been telling people at daycare, as we told him that we are going to the mountain.

We finally took him there with the weekend that has just passed. The mountain was really busy when we got there, so we had to park quite far from the ski field. That was good in a way as we had to take the bus up and it was Ryan's first time on a bus. He liked that and everything was good... till we got to the snow. He was really scared of the snow and as you can see, he got pretty upset.

He ended up staying in the canteen with my mum the whole time we were out in the snow. No, he didn't get bored. He was eating happily in there :)

When we asked why he didn't want to go out to the snow, he said "the snow is yucky!"

Funny boy. We may take him again next year and hopefully things will be a bit different next time.

Sleeping

This is a silent video clip as it is of Ryan sleeping. He was tired and refused to have a nap saying that he wants to watch TV. This is the result. If we try to move him, he will wake up and say he is watching his movie.

Mmm... Yum! Yum!

Ryan having a Nutella sandwich. If you click in to the photo, you will be able to see his juju lips (he fell down and hurt his lips at daycare that day).

Riding a Bike

This is Ryan's second bike. We bought him a Glide-to-Ride bike for his 2nd birthday. Unfortunately, he's not able to ride it as he's a bit too short and his feet can't reach the ground.

We took him to The Warehouse the other day and he saw a bike on display and started playing with it. That was when we decided to buy him another bike. This is one that's with training wheels so his feet don't need to reach the ground.

He's still trying to get the hang of it but he is not too bad.

Overseas trip cancelled

Yes, that's right. Ryan's first overseas trip was cancelled!!!

For those that remember, we applied for a passport for Ryan earlier this year so that we can fly over to Sydney in June. Unfortunately we had to cancel the trip because of swine flu. It was a real big disappointment for us as we were so looking forward to it.

If we were to go, we would have to keep Ryan away from daycare for a week and this means extra time off work for us, which we can't afford. We probably would have gone if it's not because of that.

Ryan was even saying to us that he was going on the aeroplane to see his uncle. Luckily he his not old enough to really understand what he was saying.

Anyway Ryan, mummy and daddy will to have to wait till this swine flu thing to be over before we can take you overseas. Hopefully when we do plan an overseas trip next time, we will be able to go.

Chatterbox

A video of Ryan talking.

The start of the video showed him trying to smile for the camera :D

New Photos

It's been a while since we had any new photos of Ryan so we took him to McDonald's (I know it was very naughty of us to do that) for dinner and had some photos taken there. Look at all his funny expressions. That was him trying to smile hahaha.

The last photo was taken at home. He was trying to punch Kungfu Panda.

Although these photos were taken on Friday, he has a different hairstyle now. We took him to the hairdresser today as I couldn't stand his long hair anymore and yes, he cried the whole time.

Introducing...

I don't know why I haven't done this before but everybody, meet Bear Bear. He is Ryan's teddy bear and has been with him for a long time now. He had no interest in him till a few months after he got him from grandma. He is his best friend now. Bear Bear has to be around when he has his milk and he takes it to sleep with him every night (with the exception of when he sleeps over at his grandparents).

We didn't take Bear Bear with us when we went on holiday once and he asked for it in the middle of the night. Luckily, he went back to sleep straightaway. I'm still debating whether to take it with us to Sydney. I'm afraid that we might lose him or leave him behind when we come back. I've tried looking for another one as a back up but they don't sell it at the shops anymore (he refuses to have any other one).

For those of you that's wondering about the X-MA cream I got for Ryan. We still don't know if it works as we haven't tried it yet. His eczema wasn't as bad when we got it so we decided to leave it.

Update on Ryan

Ryan finally went on his 2 years old Plunket visit the other day. He meant to go in February but the appointment was postponed and he didn't go till last Saturday.

The visit went really well. I thought he will be shy and clingy as he normally would when he's with strangers, but he was a real chatterbox on that day. As usual, he was weighed and measured. He currently weighs 15.6kg and is 88cm tall. The nurse was very happy with his progress. She said that he's a very sociable boy. Little did she know that it was all an act hahaha. I was going to take some photos but forgot to take the camera along with me.

Easter has just passed and he got soooo much chocolate. Poor mummy has to help eat them. Now I know why mummies usually put on weight :p

Moving on to something more serious now... Ryan's ezcema has flared up recently. It's a lot worse than when he was a baby. We went to the doctor and are trying a lot of different cream but they are still there. It's slightly better than it was before but it's still quite bad. I have just ordered another cream that's especially for eczema so hopefully that will do the trick. Will let you all know when we try it.

Singing ABC

He can usually sing better than this but I thought this was quite funny

Counting

Ryan is able to count 1-10 now but won't do it in front of the camera. I tried to get him to count here but he was too busy watching The Simpsons. Also, I started the camera a bit too late.

Passport

We applied for a passport for Ryan as we are planning a trip to Sydney in June. Just thought I'll put this down so he knows how old he was when he got his first passport :)

Big Kids Class

Ryan is now in the big kids class. It's for kids from 2 to 4. Thursday was his first day. They have been putting him there for a few hours each day the week before just to get him used to it. Apparently, the first day was really bad as he cried the whole time he was there but it got better from the second day onwards. He is still a bit quiet in the class (he went from being the oldest in class to being the youngest) but his teachers are very proud of him. He can communicate with the bigger kids with no problems at all.

The new class is very different to the one that he was in before. They have their naps in beds instead of cots (obviously) and toilet training is a norm in that class. There are a lot of kids in the class... about 35-40 kids. I found it very daunting when I first went in. Imagine how it would be like for Ryan! Anyway, I'm glad that all the teachers are very nice and he's settling in well.

2nd Birthday Cake

This is the cake I made for daycare for Ryan's 2nd birthday.

2nd Birthday

Although Ryan's birthday is in a few days, we celebrated it today. Instead of having a party this year, we decided to have a few people over at our place to cut the cake in the morning and we went to Butterfly Creek after that.

There were 14 of us and we had a really fun day. The weather was good and we saw butterflies, spiders and farm animals. Ryan and his friend played in the playground and some of us went on a train ride.

For his cake this year, it was in the shape of a ukelele. Yes, it's another musical instrument but he likes playing with it nowadays. He thinks it's a guitar but it doesn't matter :) He's turning out to be quite a musician, isn't he? Hehehe. I wonder what he will be into next year.
