Xmas at Tinytown 2011

Ryan had his end of year play at Tinytown today. They sang a few songs and at one stage, he presented a present to Mary and Joseph. The video is quite long so I have only put a snippet on the blog. Have fun watching.

Santa Photo 2011

It's nearly Xmas again. I thought I won't be able to keep the tradition of having a photo of Ryan with Santa. He told me earlier in the month that he was scared of Santa (when he wasn't last year) but on the weekend that has just gone, he decided he wasn't and had a photo taken with him.

It was so funny when Santa asked him if he has been good. Instead of answering, he turned around and looked at me with a sly look on his face. The girl behind behind burst out laughing. How cheeky can one be? LOL

Merry Xmas and have a fantastic holiday!

Last School Visit

Ryan went for his last school visit. He was very excited on the way there but we were very surprise at his reaction when he was in class. He started crying really loud and was holding on very tightly to me, all the while saying he didn't want us to go and that he wanted to go home. What was more surprising was he had 2 of his friends from Daycare in that class. The teacher had to separate him from me.

By the way, he was in a different class today. It was the last visit for all the rest of the kids that were visiting and they had to assess them so they know what class to put them into.

When we went back to pick him up, we were told that he was fine after a little while. He told the teacher that he missed us. He did enjoy himself though and that's all that matters.

Instead of taking him back to Daycare, we had the day off work and took him out for a bit of fun. The main reason for that was because his friends at Daycare had gone on a field trip and it wouldn't be nice to take him back there. We ended up going to a park and he was a very happy little boy.

Here's a video of his first time on a flying fox.

On His Bike

Here's a very short clip of Ryan cycling without any training wheels. The battery was flat on my video camera and that was all I could capture.

It was pretty much his first time on a two wheeler. He was a bit wobbly at first but got the hang of it pretty quick. It took about 2 minutes for him to master it.

Primary School

No, Ryan hasn't started primary school yet but it's not long to go. He is turning 5 in February and we are near the end of November.

We have enrolled him to Pakuranga Heights Primary School and his first day of school is 7th February. It will be the 2nd week of the first term which works out to be quite good.

We have bought his Summer uniform and here are a couple of pictures of him wearing them. He was so excited when he tried them on and we couldn't wipe the smile of his face.

He has been for a couple of school visits. The first one was last week. He was excited but got quite shy when we got there. He and some others were in a class with some new entrants for about an hour and a half. They were taught the alphabet of the day and did some colouring as well. He thought it was good fun

He had another visit this morning but this time round we let him stay till after morning tea to give him a chance to socialise more with the other kids. We noticed a difference in him as soon as we got there. He was so much more confident and wanted to join in as soon as we got to the class. At morning tea time, he was very happy as he saw some of his friends from Daycare.

His next visit is next week and then that will be it till he starts next year. Wow! My boy is really growing up. It's scary but exciting at the same time :)

Class Photo 2011

These are Ryan's last class photos at Tinytown. Hard to believe that he has been for nearly 4.5 years. It's amazing looking at all the photos together.

Ahoy! Pirate

It was Pirate Day at the Auckland Maritime Meuseum so I dressed Ryan up as a pirate and joined in the fun.

Rainbow's End

This is for those who are not on Facebook.

The weather was really good on the weekend and we decided to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine. Rainbow's End came to my mind as it's somewhere that Ryan hasn't been before and also, he really enjoyed himself at the Easter Show. For those that live overseas, Rainbow's End is a fun park in Auckland.

It was a decision well made as he had a lot of fun. We were there till closing time and even then, he didn't really want to leave. He was a bit hesitant on some of the rides initially but he was ok once he warmed up. He went on the rides that he was able to go on and even went 2 or 3 times on some of them. His favourite was the Log Flume (it was mum and dad's favourite as well) and he thought the Motion Master movie was "awesome".

Character Costume Day

It's story book characters day at daycare tomorrow and Ryan said he wants to go as a Toy Story character. We ended up getting him a 2-in-1 costume. You get Woody on one side and when you turn it inside out, you get Buzz Lightyear. He tried it on when we got home tonight and he was so happy. He was running around the house pretending to be Buzz Lightyear.

Here are some photos of him as both characters. His head is a bit too big for the Buzz Lightyear head gear so we couldn't velcro the sides together.

Easter 2011

Ryan has been talking about the Easter show for months and the time has finally arrived. I took Ryan there this morning and we were there for more than 4 hours. If you ask me, that's a lot of walking for a 4 year old. He had the time of his life and boy, what a big contrast to last year. He didn't want to go on any rides at the carnival area last year but this year, he went on all the kiddie rides... all by himself.

We started off with the pony ride. He told me weeks before that he will ride the pony and he's not going to be scared. I could tell he was really nervous when he was waiting for the pony and alas, he couldn't go through with it. We got refunded our money but then I showed him the kid that was riding and he decided he wanted to give it another try. He did but instead of doing two laps, he wanted to do just one. I was really proud of him for going through with it though. He was so funny when he was taking off his helmet. He said 'I did it' with such a great sense of achievement in his voice.

We then did the rest of the rides at the carnival. I told him that I had to take photos and couldn't go on them with him. I was quite surprise that he was ok to go on all the rides by himself. He even went on the kiddie roller coaster. You can probably tell from the photo that he was scared but he went on it again just before we left (I had coupons left over for another ride). The only ride he didn't go by himself was the dodgem cars and it was because he wasn't tall enough.

We also went indoor for the Cookie Bear rides. Again, he went on everything himself... except for one. He wanted to go on the pirate ship and I remember how scared he was last year so I said I will go on it with him. He loved it but poor mummy was feeling nauseous from it. For some reason, the pirate ship ride does that to me all the time. I told him that he will have to do that by himself next year and he said happily said ok.

I was so proud of my little boy. He was so good and well behaved the whole time. If only he is like that all the time (wishful thinking).

Fancy Dress

Now that Ryan is older, I'm finding it more difficult to update his blog... or maybe it's just me being lazy :)

Daycare had a disco day recently to raise fund for the Christchurch earthquake. It was on during the day but they took the kids downstairs to the auditorium which they have decorated with balloons, etc. Those that went paid $3 to attend and they were asked to dress up for it. I got Ryan a Batman costume. Turned out that there were 3 Batmans, including him. We were told that they had lots of fun dancing the whole day and they raised $200.

I don't have any photos of the day itself but here are some photos of him in his Batman suit, taken the evening before the event.

Ryan has more Ben10 toys today!!!

I entered a competition at Farmers before Xmas for some special edition Ben10 toys which I have totally forgotten about. The parcel arrived today and Ryan was very excited and so happy. Pictures below.

Happy 4th Birthday

Another year has gone by. Ryan is 4 years old. I have been told by a lot of people that there's a vast improvement on their behaviour once they turn 4. This I have to see as Ryan has been throwing lots of tantys.

Anyway, this is not what I'm blogging about now. This is to let you know how his 4th birthday went. As usual, he had 2 celebrations. One at daycare and the other one with us.

The party the daycare had for him was on the exact day of his birthday. They have been learning about shapes and he asked me for a rectangle shaped cake. I tried looking for him but couldn't find one. Well, not for the amount that I want to pay. I managed to get him a square chocolate cake with lots of cherries. We had to prepare for his party the next day so we had that day off. We took the party food to his class and stayed for a little while. That was the first time we attended his birthday party at school. He was so happy that all the attention were on him and he looked so proud. Unfortunately we didn't take any photos as we weren't planning on staying. However I did take a photo of the cake before I took it to daycare.

Chocolate Cherry Cake for Daycare
He hasn't had any 'real' parties before so I decided to throw him one this year. It was lots of work and not cheap but I did it. The party was today and he had lots of fun. I guess that makes it all worth it :)

I had Ben 10 as the theme of the party and there were about 13 kids including him. 5 of them were from daycare and there were some others. He had a chocolate birthday cake shaped like the character Rath. I had some games for them and they ate in the garage which was decorated with the colour of the theme. Overall, I think the party went quite well. Thanks to all those that attended and made this a fun day for Ryan.

Not So Good News

My first entry of the year and it's not good news!!!

We have just cancelled Ryan's swimming lessons. Reason? He doesn't want to go them anymore. I feel terrible. Parents are being encouraged to take their kids to swimming lessons and here I am taking him out of lessons. After years of learning to swim, he has achieved nothing. Things were going pretty well until the beginning of last year. He had a little slip and his lessons went from bad to worse since then.

We are hoping that he might be ok with it after a break from it. He will be starting school next year so hopefully by then he will want to go back to swimming.

The other thing we have to share is Ryan has just developed chicken pox. I noticed two spots a couple of days ago. We took him to the doctor yesterday and he confirmed it. The doctor said he is one of the lucky ones as he hasn't got a fever and it looks to be quite mild. I'm crossing my fingers that he's right. Just as we are about to go back to work. Ash has to take an extra week off work. The good thing is at least it's now and not during Xmas or his birthday, which is less than a month away.
